Specific Reasons For The Blockage Of Grinding Wheels

There are several factors that affect the blockage of grinding wheel as follows:

1. Abrasive species

The blockage degree of different grinding wheel is very different. In order to reduce the degree blockage and improve the grinding effect, different materials should be used for different abrasives. If the selected abrasive cannot be adapted to the grinding material, it is easy to cause rapid blockages so that the machine cannot be operated.

2. Abrasive grain size

Abrasive grain size on the grinding wheel is a factor of the blockage. Usually the fine grain will be easier to causing the blockage than rough grain. Because the number of cutting edge of the fine-grain grinding wheel is increased, and the number of chips is increased.  And the grinding temperature is increased, so the chips will be large. With the increasing number of cutting edges and large cutting depth, the wear extend will be increased. The grinding temperature rise, the chip melts will increase. To a certain number of times, the clogging of coarse-grained wheel will be more than the fine-grained one.

3. The hardness of grinding wheels

The hardness is a main factor of causing blockages. In general the harder the grinding wheel, the bigger the blockage. Usually the hardness selection of grinding wheels is G-H. In some difficult to process materials, it often choose D-O hardness.

4. Grinding wheel liner speed

The impact of the liner speed is more complex. When the liner speed is increased from 28.8m / s to 33.6m / s, it is increased about 16%, while the number of blockages is increased by three times. Because the increasing speed will make the maximum cutting depth of abrasives reduce, and the cutting area will be decreased. While the number of cuttings and the grinding heat are increased, these two factors will affect the clogging amount. But the liner speed is up to a certain degree (such as up to 50m / b or more), the clogging will be greatly reduced. Production practice shows that: for grinding stainless steel and high temperature alloy, the clogging amount of 55m / s speed is reduced 30% to 100% than 30m / s. Therefore, for grinding the hard material, either at a speed of less than 20 m / s or at a speed of 50 m/ s.
