The Difference About Performance Between CBN Tool And PCD Tool
Nov 07, 2018

CBN mainly processes black high hardness metals, such as hardened steel and cast steel (iron), which can withstand high temperature (above 1000 degrees) and hardness of 8000 HV. It is a good tool material for improving production efficiency and processing difficult materials.

The main machining targets for CBN tools are cast iron and hardened steel. The application industry is also mainly in the automotive engine and bearing industries.

PCD mainly processes non-ferrous metals such as non-ferrous metals, which can sharpen sharp edges and obtain a better processed surface, generally achieving a finish of 0.2. It is also the preferred material for processing non-metallic new materials. It is highly wear-resistant and has low friction. At the same time, the hardness can reach 10,000 HV or higher, and it can cut high hardness products such as hard alloys and industrial ceramics.

PCD tools are mainly used for the processing of difficult-to-machine materials such as non-ferrous metals and their alloys, composite materials, artificial panels, graphite and carbon fiber, non-metallic materials.

Compared with PCD tools, CBN tools are easier to process. Moreover, with the promotion of energy saving in the automotive industry, there are more and more cars with aluminum alloy bases. Therefore, CBN has been encroached by PCD blades in the milling of automobile engines. .

Of course, with the cost of CBN tools falling, in the field of automotive brake discs, CBN inserts have also replaced the share of traditional carbide inserts. It should be said that with the increasing number of CBN materials, the share of CBN tools will continue to rise in the traditional hard material turning and grinding fields.
